Whixley Grange Farm is owned by the Voakes family who have farmed in North Yorkshire for over 60 years and hold an exemplary record for animal husbandry which still continues today.
Voakes pork pies are produced from our own stock of pigs which are bred at Whixley Grange. Only the best cuts of pork and carefully selected ingredients are used to produce our award winning pies for today’s discerning market.
Andrew learned to make the hot water crust pastry necessary for a pork pie from his grandmother. She always used to make the Christmas pork pie and although she didn’t give him the recipe now in use, she did tell him how to go about making a hot crust pastry, an essential element in any good pork pie. Andrew amended his grandmother’s recipe through trial and error and uses the pork from the large white “Yorkshire” landrace-cross pigs kept by his father, David and brother, James, at Whixley Grange.
The production unit for Voakes Pies is purpose built, providing a superb quality controlled environment in which we can maintain our high standards, and we look forward to the continued expansion of production at Whixley Grange.
